“Time to Unwind”
One of the very satisfying aspects of being an Interior Designer is the knowledge gained from the exposure to various cultures and lifestyles while getting to know your client and their environment. I had never heard of Ames, Iowa until I accepted this Design Home challenge! But, Ames is home to Iowa State University (of which I have heard), and has a population of approximately 60,000 residents (half of which are ISU students). And, Ames has been named one of the “Best Places to Live” by CNN Money (Ames Tribune). So, I’d say our Design Home client is fortunate to live in this small, Midwestern, college town.
Our client's passion for gardening defines the scope of the this design project, which requires the designers to create a relaxing bedroom. The bedroom window faces the backyard and the ideal design would provide a comfortable space to "unwind" while enjoying the view of her beautiful backyard garden. Below is the design that I submitted for voting...and, I am happy to say that my design received .....
I selected a neutral color palette of cool grays and beige, since neutral colors can be calming and peaceful. The soft curve of the on the Kathy Kuo Home Chambray Upholstered Bed adds a feminine touch to the room as does the Roxbury Tufted Storage Ottoman in an off white/linen color by Apt2B. The light walnut finish of CFC's Sansa Table (which is also available with 3 drawers) provides a subtle contrast with the cool darker gray of the bed, and the lighter beige walls. The large gray Melrose Ottoman by Apt2B is perfect for extra seating or can serve as a surface for serving trays or books. Our client did not request a dresser, but instead a console table. For this space, I chose Kathy Kuo Home's Bina Aged Brass Tray Console . The room is balanced using a beautiful ikat print, gray and charcoal rug, that is 100% wool with an from Loloi's Akina Collection. This room is rich with blending, but different textures. Kathy Kuo Home Penrod Brass Chain Link Gourd Lamp features an antique brass mesh covering the gourd shape base with a beige linen shade.
