Don’t you agree that an exclusive seaside resort requires an exclusive design? After a perfect day of photographing picturesque sites, surfing, and hiking, it’s time to retreat to the “perfect bedroom”; one that is light and airy, with a stunning ocean view.

    

Today, Design Home designers find themselves in the tropical paradise of Guanacaste, Costa Rica.  Among those of us who found ourselves accepting the challenge to design the “perfect bedroom,” the results are in, featuring the top ten winning designs.  Here are three of my favorite winners for this challenge!

Designer Weiss, indeed, created a "perfect bedroom" that is light and airy by choosing a monochromatic color scheme accented by the blue drapery panel. The black and ivory area rug from the Loloi Emory Collection sets the stage for the beautiful canopy bed by Kathy Kuo Home.  The white weathered finished Eloquence Dauphine bed, upholstered in white linen adds a romantic appeal to the space.  Flanking the foot board are two Kathy Kuo Home Secor Modern White Oak Snow Velvet ottomans, which beautifully contrasts with the linen texture of the bed.  There is ample clothing storage for guest in the Kathy Kuo Home Seaford Costal White Wood Linen Double Dresser,  This coastal styled six drawer unit features carved wood and linen, complimenting the linen upholstery.  Weiss specified the Modloft Bowery Nightstand for bedside storage. Perfectly proportioned for space, what is most unique about this sleek polish steel and lacquered wood piece is its glass bottom.  Extra seating is provided with the Worlds Away Melanie WHN stool, on nickel base.  The linen on the stool is a great use of the design principle of repetition.  Finally, for lighting, this talented designer has chosen the Kathy Kuo Home Starlight Silver Crystal Double Table Lamp and Apt2B's Cubic Table Lamp. Additional illumination come from the Kathy Kuo Home Cliff Black Tripod Dome Floor Lamp.

Imagine enjoying the ocean view from this elegant bedroom, designed by Kazz,  This designer illustrate great use of the design principle rhythm (motion).  Using the navy blue color for contrast and repetition gives the space visual interest and allows the eye to move about the space.  The  Kathy Kuo Home Chambray Upholstered Bed, which can be customized using a variety of fabrics, features a curved step arch shaped headboard with a mini nail head trim.  The nail head treatment and step arch shape are repeated on Kathy Kuo Home Duvall Natural Linen Ottoman Stool giving the space a unified look.   Kazz chose the Kathy Kuo Home Gretta Grey Steel Inlaid Ash Dresser for guest storage.  In a heather grey finish with polished steel trim, this oversized dresser offers 12 drawers. The grey wash wax finish on the  CFC Lily Nightstand is a nice companion to the dresser.  For lighting, this design features two exquisite Clayton Polished Nickel Table Lamps by Kathy Kuo Home and the Apt2B Croft Swing Arm Floor Lamp.  The Fiora Blue Floral Porcelain Garden Stool by Kathy Kuo Home serves functionally as seating, but aesthetically as art.  The total look is grounded with a 100% wool, hand tufted rug for LoLoi's Hamilton Collection.

Take a glimpse out of the window and you'll see the dunes and rocks of the pristine sandy beach of Guanacaste, which might have been the inspiration for Pretty In Pink's design.  The neutral tan tones of the sand works well with this seaside coastal style.  The sleek and modern design of Apt2B's Eagle Rock Bed gives the room a clean, minimalist aesthetic.  The clean lines are repeated in the Modloft Broome Nightstand and Modloft Broome  Dresser, as is the walnut wood veneer finish. The coastal theme continues with the selection of the Kathy Kuo Home Dane Weathered White Storage and Kathy Kuo Home Cassius Natural Rope Quatrefoil Stool.  The  ottomans feature a burlap cushion top that adds just enough texture and room inside for extra storage.  The stool is finished with a natural abaca rope and is a perfect addition to this design.  The weathered look is repeated in the large blue and tan rug from the Loloi Newport Collection.  At sunset this "perfect bedroom" is illuminated with two Kathy Kuo Home Jones Recycle Glass Table Lamps, just lightly tinted in blue that reflects the blue waters of Costa Rica.  Additional lighting comes from Serene & Lily Stewart Floor Lamp.
